If you are installing
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desk Top Engine, you MUST be logged in as the
special Administrator.
All Windows XP computers have a special user account named Administrator
(some computer manufacturers might rename it).

If you are currently logged on to your computer,
click Start, and then click Log Off. When prompted,
click Switch User. Note:
If your computer is joined to an Active Directory, the Fast Users
Switching feature will be disabled. This is a common change made to
computers used for business. In fact, it happens automatically when
a computer joins an Active Directory domain. However, this setting
is not the default setting. Almost all computers in home
environments will have Fast User Switching enabled.

Windows XP logs you on using the Administrator
account. You should use the Administrator account only when
installing software or changing computer settings. When you are
browsing the Web, reading e-mail, or performing other day-to-day
computer tasks, you should be logged on using a limited account. For
more information, read

Tech Note
Since the account you can
create during Windows XP setup adds the user to the Administrators
group, the original Administrator account is not visible by default. If
you want to log on with the original Administrator account, you have a
choice of four options.
- The first option is to press [Ctrl][Alt][Delete] at the Welcome
Screen twice This will change the Welcome Screen login to the
Windows 2000 style log in, where you can now type Administrator and
the password for the Admin account.
- The second option is to boot in safe mode, under which the
Welcome Screen will display only accounts with Administrator
privileges, including the original Administrator account.
- The third option is to make the Administrator account the only
user account with the administrative privileges. This means that you
will have to remove all other users from the Administrators group
with the help of the Computer Management console.
- The fourth choice is to add the Administrator to the Welcome
Screen:
Start the Registry Editor
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows NT \
CurrentVersion \ Winlogon \ SpecialAccounts \ UserList \
Right-click an empty space in the right pane and select New > DWORD
Value
Name the new value Administrator
Double-click this new value, and enter 1 as its Value data
Close the registry editor
Note: Remember, registry
editing can be risky, so be sure you have a verified backup before
making any changes. |
